Dermal Fillers

Why Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are used for facial wrinkles, lip enhancement, skin rejuvenation, enlargement of chin and cheekbones.  They are normally based on a normal component of the skin,  and when injected for cosmetic uses they are progressively reabsorbed over time. There are many different types of fillers, with different densities and with or without local anaesthetic, that can be used to obtain particularly natural results. Treatments have demonstrated an exceptional level of safety, and there are no reported allergic reactions to the most commonly used dermal fillers.

How it is done

A preparation, whose exact type and density is selected according to the specific needs is infiltrated in the areas to be treated. The treatment is not very painful, but it is possible to use anaesthetic creams or, in some areas, injection of local anaesthetic to make it even more comfortable. Some of the newest fillers contain local anaesthetic themselves. Most doctors now inject fillers using special small and flexible blunt cannulas instead of needles. This increases accuracy, and at the same time reduces pain and the risk of bruising.

Healing period

Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the treatment, which requires about thirty minutes. There may be some redness around the treated areas, lasting few hours. Both the discomfort during the treatment and the recovery time can be dramatically reduced using the specific flexible cannulas for a ‘needle-free’ infiltration.

Duration of the result

Dermal fillers are gradually dissolved, and the treatment has to be repeated over time to maintain constant results. The duration of the results varies depending on the density of the product used, the specific characteristics of the skin of each patient and the facial area that is treated. For most of the treatments, a duration of  8 to 12 months  can be expected, while in some areas of the face (periorbital area, tip of the nose) it is not uncommon to reach 18-24 months.
