Why an Otoplasty?

The otoplasty, sometimes also called pinnaplasty, is the cosmetic procedure for the correction of the prominent ears. The goal is to recreate the natural curvature and appearance of the ears.

How it is done

A small ellipse of skin is removed from behind the ear, the ear cartilage is exposed and remodelled. The wound is sutured with dissolvable stitches. The operation can be planned in day surgery without overnight stay a the hospital. It can be performed under local anaesthesia, local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia, depending on the preferences of the patient.

Healing period

At the end of the procedure a quite bulky dressing, a turban, is applied. The turban will be removed after a week, at the first postop appointment. At this stage it is normal to note redness and swelling, that may last for few weeks. After the removal of the dressing, it is advisable to wear an elastic headband at night, covering the ears, for a month. The pain related to the procedure is normally minimal, and well controlled with ordinary pain killers.

Duration of the result

The correction obtained with an otoplasty is long-lasting, except for the normal age-related modification of the face.

Cost of the otoplasty

The cost of the otoplasty starts from 5,000 KYD. As all the cosmetic surgery procedures are highly personalised, please consider that these prices are guidelines only and may vary for each individual case, depending on the exact procedure needed, the type of anaesthesia and the length of the hospital stay.
